Der Balkon

The Alpenhof Restaurant was the brain child of Lewis Fritz over 100 years ago.

Upon completion, one of her assets was the wide wrap around porch which today serves many purposes: one of which is “Der Balkon”, the front area facing Route 10.

Unused for many years, der Balkon was resurrected last year,  2007,  110 years after her ground breaking.  Needing some major renovations, the porch is now restored to the very same grandeur as present at her grand opening in August 1898 with the addition of  three comfort aiding ceiling fans hanging from the roof’s drop ceiling.  This all done as a eye pleasing cover for the restaurant’s upgraded central air conditioning and of course it’s added elegance helps conceal the extra wiring needed for the fans and various ambiance lights which adorn the original columns and enhance the old-style wooden framing.  A plank deck was constructed to connect the porch end to a back kitchen entrance door which also serves as an extra exterior ingress to the restaurant.
Nature’s foliage, the rustic furniture and the quaint surroundings make a dining experience on “der Balkon” an event you will not forget!
